Jerry Mansmann has over 30 years of international healthcare experience. Trained as a lawyer, he provided strategic and development advice to healthcare providers on a national basis. In recognition of his skills and contributions to the expansion of healthcare services, Jerry’s peers elected him to the first listing of The Best Lawyers in America.
During his legal practise in the United States he helped develop and lead the growth strategies for major Health Systems on a national basis. For example he lead the growth of a Texas based Health System that went from 9 hospitals to 40 facilities making it the largest provider of healthcare services in Texas and Louisiana. In addition Jerry was an architect of the design and was the lead implementer of a large east coast health system that grew from 7 hospitals into a national system of 32 hospitals and 47 long term care facilities. This health system now ranks in the top 10 health care providers in the United States.
Over 10 years ago, Jerry saw the changes beginning to occur in the European healthcare systems and moved to the UK to establish a London office based on providing strategic and legal advice. The London office quickly grew from three to 60 professionals, all providing advice on healthcare matters. An office was also opened in Dublin to serve the Irish healthcare market.
As head of the international healthcare practise, Jerry had the opportunity to learn about the various health systems and the problems and challenges each faced. During this time period there were massive changes in the healthcare delivery systems, the most dramatic of which occurred in the UK.
One of Jerry’s clients was Nations Healthcare, Ltd which was a start up company organised to participate in the UK Department of Health‘s Independent Sector Treatment Centre (ISTC)initiative which encouraged private providers to bid on the provision of services to NHS patients. Jerry was instrumental in the formation of world class consortium which included Johns Hopkins International and Harvard School of Public Health.
Nations was the most successful bidder in Wave 1 of the Governments ISTC programme and as a result, Jerry joined Nations full time as Chair of the Board. Eventually he also served as CEO. At Nations, Jerry managed the bidding process to land key contracts and personally spearheaded negotiations on the largest and most complex ISTC project in the UK. In addition Jerry lead a team in successfully raising private equity for the company and participated in the design, construction, and financing of four new facilities valued at over £68 million. The company grew from 7 employees to over 250 to date with a forecasted personnel base of 500.
In addition to his roles as an advisor and executive, Jerry has served in a corporate governance role for a wide variety of healthcare companies which include a large US national healthcare system, subsidiaries of over sea’s companies, and UK and Irish healthcare organisations.
Since the sale of Nations, Jerry has been providing consulting services to health organisations who desire to enter the UK and European markets as well as local providers, both public and independent.
